As we head into the harmattan season. It’s a good time to touch base and see how you’re doing with your health. Keeping your body immune system robust and in top shape is the best way to help you avoid viral infections, cracked skin and lips, dehydration and other discomforting condition that comes with the harmattan season.
These are simple ways to support your body.

1. Boost your immune system

Our immune cells need the right ingredients to work effectively and to understand when they’re up against a real threat. It’s main duty is to notify the body and attack the incoming infection thus, this period of year, it will be nice to have a little extra help in that department by taking supplement that contains vitamin C, zinc, iron, magnesium, and B vitamins which are all essential for optimal immune function.

2. Drink plenty of water

Because of the extreme dryness of the air, It is very important to increase fluid intake so as to reduce dehydration. Ensure you have a bottle of water with you at all times to increase the motility of mucus. For those who don’t like to drink water, I will recommend infusion of water with a slice of cucumber, mint leaves or orange. whether you like your water plain or infused, the most important thing is to stay hydrated this harmattan season.

3 . Skin Care

The harmattan season leaves people with cracked lips and skin that can be very discomforting. As seniors, I encourage you to protect the integrity of your skin and prevent such dryness by using good body moisturizers and oils. That are easily absorbable and increase the moisture of the skin

4 . Wear the right clothes

Wearing the right clothes during the harmattan season helps to prevent common cold , keeps you warm and prevents unduly exposure to infections and heat.
Because with aging some forms of protective body fats are lost, it is important to keep warm with thick and heat absorbable clothes during this season. if you can hand gloves and well-covered shoes too are also helpful depending on your location.

5 . Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals which are essential to stay healthy and hydrated during the harmattan season. fruit and vegetable with high water content helps to reduce dehydration & dryness of skin. Fruits also helps fight infections and build immunity. This is a must have for everyone one during this season aleast ONE FRUIT PER DAY.

Lastly, Bathe with Lukewarm water:

The mornings are usually cold and having a shower with cold water isn’t advisable. rather, using a lukewarm water helps to open the skin pores and keep the skin hydrated and moist.

Also extremely hot long bathe is a NO NO during this period.

Practice this tips and let me know which ones you are most comfortable with.

Be safe and enjoy your week
